I’ve been thinking a lot lately about what makes a successful business. Like many other companies, Berkeley Communications has been writing its plan for the next three years, what we stand for, where we want to go and importantly how we’ll get there.
Whichever way we look at success, there is one key thing we keep coming back to…our people.
In a service-led business (in fact, in any business) people are a key commodity. In communications, a sector based on relationships, having the right people is even more important.
Here’s the top attributes we look for in our people:
Passion – This goes a long way both in the interview process and in daily working life. The people who want to be here have a drive for the job – even when the going gets tough. These are the kind of people we want by our side in the good times and the bad.
Being inquisitive – Asking why is probably one of the most important attributes our people can have. It’s easy to forget to take a step back when things are busy but doing so gives us an edge that sets us and our clients apart.
Entrepreneurism – Our people don’t just accept the status quo. Always having an eye on the future and spotting an opportunity is how our business has evolved for the last 30 years – and it’s how we’ll stay relevant for the next 30 too!
Sharing – There is no ‘I’ in team, and as far as we are concerned there’s no ‘me’ either. We’ve built, and continue to grow, because we share the pleasure and the pain and support each other.
